It’s been a while, I know but I wanted to share something I heard on the radio the other day and this is the perfect place to do it. If you are anything like me, I get ideas for books and stories everywhere. From television to online articles, photos to something I hear in passing. Hence the radio.
The other day, I was driving home from work and heard about an auction coming up soon. The items on sale? Slides of Ghandi’s blood from when he had surgery. It obviously started me thinking about what if someone found a way to revive the blood cells and then extracted DNA from them to clone the man. Who would he be?
For me, a person isn’t totally defined by his or her DNA. What color eyes you have? Sure, hair color and male pattern baldness too. But the kind of person, no. Ghandi was defined by his life experiences, decisions he had to make and the people that influenced him through out his life.
But what a story it could make!
So, if you’re a writer in search of a topic for a short story and you like a challenge, I challenge you to write a story about someone who is cloned by another with clear expectations. A memory of love lost that the cloner wants to return. A power hungry cult that wants to take over the world by cloning a dictator. There are no boundaries, other than your imagination.
Don’t be surprised if I send out other challenges. And feel free to share your own, as well as some of the results!
